DENIAL OF SHORTAGE BRITISH UNIONIST'S CLAIM MANY ENGINEERS UNEMPLOYED LONDON; April 10 The secretary of the Amalgamated Engineering Union, Mr. F. Smith, has issued a statement that although there is an alleged shortage of skilled labour, and it is said emergency measures may be necessary, there are 7197 members ot his union unemployed, besides skilled workers who have sought other occupations. "Moreover, we hare repeatedly warned employers and the Government that skilled craftsmanship is being allowed to deteriorate," Mr. Smith said. "Furthermore,, it is illogical to ask for sacrifices of union rules while skilled men are still employed producing armaments for sale abroad."
