The special rating area, which is in the central business section or the town, includes Victoria Street and is bounded by Hood, Anglesea and Bryce Streets. A poll was held in April of last year in connection with a similar proposal, the area over which the poll was takea being the whole of the borough. -On that occasion the loan for which sanction was sought was £89,000. The poll resulted in 1171 voting for the proposal and 1384 against, the issue being de* feated by 213 votes. Since then thtf* scheme has been modified to some extent, and a smaller sum is sought to b« raised, the security offered being i'_ smaller rating area than in the first instance.
