INDUSTRIAL PLAN
SCHEME FOR HAIRDRESSERS OPPOSITION ANTICIPATED Disagreement among members on the subject of working under a plan for the industry to be prepared by the Bureau of Industries is stilted to bo likely at the annual meeting this evening of the Auckland District I? etn.il Tobacconists and Hairdressers' Association. Objections come from many of the small hairdressers and tobacconists who see in the scheme either the intention to force'them out of business or a policy that will have that effect. The annual report of the association to ho presented nt the meeting gives details of a conference with the bureau by the combined committee of the industry, which contained representatives of workers as well as tlie employers. It is stated that Mr. A. L. Knowslcv, 011 behalf of the New Zealand Retail Tobacconists and Hairdressers' Federation, expressed the opinion that the proposed plan would tend to more efficient service, give stability to the wage levels in the industry, reduce uneconomic shops to a minimum and reabsorb journeymen back to full-wage employment. It would create benefits to all and injury to none. ''How can businesses described as uneconomic be reduced without injuring the owners?" said the owner of a hairdressing business., "Those behind th«» scheme will not guarantee to employ all hairdressers forced out of business, or restore to them the money they have lost,"
