INHUMANE SLAUGHTER

Sir, —The account of a visit to a Christchureh freezing works published in the Herald of March 31, will haunt many. .It seems unbelievable that such primitive methods arc employed today. To stab, however purposefully, at a dangling, writhing animal, is u disgusting and unscientific way of killing. What is the objection to the humane killer? If animals can, by this means, be spared unnecessary fear and pain, it is our duty as human beings, to insist upon its use. The need for reform is so urgent, it calls for an organised effort throughout the country. The matter could not then he ignored by Parliament, but would, of necessity, be given the careful consideration it demands. H. E. Dixon.
