ILLICIT LIQUOR
OFFENDER FINED £6O TE KUITI PROSECUTION [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN COIIRESPOXnEKT] TE KUITI, Monday A fine of £-50 for keeping liquor for sale in a proclaimed area, and of £lO for failing to notify liquor brought into the King Country to the clerk of the Magistrate's Court, were imposed on Frederick William Charles Bredenbeck by Mr. W. H. Freeman, S.M., to-day. Defendant, who was represented by Mr. .T. M. Hine, pleaded guilty to both charges. Sergeant Flyer said that on March 21 a search warrant was executed on the premises of defendant and a quantity of liquor seized, including gin, wine and whisky, no declarations for which had been received. During a period prior to the raid 136 dozen pints of ale had been purchased by defendant. That was all the liquor that the police could trace. On March 18 24 dozen bottles of ale had been purchased and at the raid on March 21 there had been no sign of this liquor. This showed that the liquor was being disposed of in very large quantities. Bredenbeck was selling more liquor than some hotels with which he had come into contact. Mr. Hine stated that the sergeant would agr<?e that Bredenbeck had only been in business during the last few months. He had never supplied Maoris or women and had been frank with the police.
