RETURNED SOLDIERS
PILGRIMAGE TO SYDNEY CONTINGENT FROM AUCKLAND DEPARTURE ON MONDAY Scenes reminiscent of the days of the Great War will bo witnessed at the Auckland railway station on Easter Monday evening, when the Auckland section of the New Zealand and Australian returned soldiers will leave for Wellington en route to Sydney, where they will take part in the Anzac Day celebrations in conjunction with the Returned Soldiers and Sailors' Imperial League of Australia. The s])ecinl train will leave at 9.15 p.m. for Wellington, where the Auckland contingent will be joined by members from the South Island An official farewell function will be attended by the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, and the Mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop. The two official transport steamers will be the Maunganui and Monowai, while a- number of men who are going independently to Sydney will travel by the Awatea. Nearly 1500 returned soldiers will leave New Zealand on the evening of next Tuesday. On the arrival of the transports in Sydney, the New Zealanders will march to the Cenotaph for the official ceremony of placing wreaths. They will be guests at a luncheon on the same day. With the New Zealand contingent in the vanguard, 50,000 returned soldiers will march to the Cenotaph on Anzac Day. A full programme of entertainments has been arranged for the men during their five days 1 stay in Sydney. The ships will leave Sydney on the evening of April 31, and are due in I Wellington on May 2.
