TRAFFIC DANGER

BLOCKAGE OF STEEET PARKED SERVICE CARS CONGESTION IN HAMILTON [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday The congestion caused by the parking of service cars in Victoria Street, Hamilton's main thoroughfare, was the subject of criticism at a meeting of the Hamilton advisory committee of the Automobile Association (Auckland) last night. It was stated that as these vehicles stood in the street for a considerable time, they were a danger to other road users, who were forced to swerve into the centre of the road to avoid them.

There was a by-law prohibiting the cars stopping in Victoria Street at their present depot, said the secretary, Mr. N. V. Edwards, but the regulation had apparently not been enforced. The president, Mr. F. E. Mason, considered the position was bad enough now and thought it would rapidly get worse. He was of the opinion that the main street was certainly not a stopping place for service cars. Even when parked parallel with the curb they were responsible for congestion. 11; was stated that the area now used was adjacent to a bus stop and this resulted, on occasions, in a double row of vehicles occupying the main thoroughfare. The secretary was instructed to write to the Ha,n ilton Borough Council outlining the committee's views, and suggesting that the by-laws dealing With tlio stopping of passenger vehicles should be rigidly enforced.
