Kerr, aged 27, married, a son of Mr. J. Kerr, of Opotiki, was injured iwhcn a wire rope snapped under a heavy strain. Mr. Kerr was working a winch moving a 10-ton pile driver into another position when tho rope parted and tho heavy block swung round, chopped through an iron rod and struck Mr. Kerr's leg, which was fractured below the knee.
