RAZOR SLASHING CASE
SEARCH FOR ASSAILANT SUDDEN ATTACK ON YOUTH Auckland is being scoured by the police in an endeavour to find the assailant of the youth, Colin Richard Honey, aged 17, who was slashed across the face with a razor in Queen's Arcade at 10.30 o'clock on Saturday night. The crime is regarded as being one of the most serious committed in the city for some years. No arrest had been made at a late hour last night. A theory is held that the attack was committed by an overseas visitor to the city. The story of the attack was told by the victim, who had returned to his work at a factory at Freeman's Bay yesterday. He was wearing sticking plaster over the wound on the side of his face. Honey explained that he and a cousin, Victor Stedman, had attended a city theatre; and had decided to leave before the programme was completed. On rising from his seat he had been pushed violently from behind by a man, who, with a companion, followed the cousins out of the theatre. The two strangers had argued with the two youths while walking down Queen Street, and had persistently wanted to fight. On entering Queen's Arcade the man standing on Honey's left had suddenly produced what appeared to be a white-handled razor and slashed Honey down the face. The assailant then attempted to attack Stedman, but the latter successfully avoided the blow. The man and his companion then quickly disappeared. Honey said that both the strangers were sober. The incident passed so quickly that it was not noticed by the large crowds in the street at the time.
