FATAL BULLET WOUND
LICENSEE OF HOTEL THAMES COAST TRAGEDY [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] THAMES, Monday A fatality occurred at Tapu, on the Thames coast, this morning, when the licensee of the Royal Oak Hotel, Mr. Douglas McKenzie, was found at the rear of the premises with a pea-rifle billlct wound in his head. Mr. McKenzie had been in the habit of shooting stray cats around the hotel, and at eight o'clock he went outside to shoot a cat he had seen. Later lie was found lying unconscious, and Dr. T. E. Miller, who was called, .ordered him to the hospital, but he died at 11.30 without recovering consciousness. Mr. McKenzie had been licensee of the hotel for eight months, having come from Tauranga. Ho was 43 years of age. He leaves a widow and young family. An inquest will be held.
