OVERHEAD BRIDGES

hopuhopu crossing WORK COMPLETED YESTERDAY [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Monday The danger of railway crossings on husv main highways was further eliminated to-day with the completion at Hopuhopu of the first of the 10 overhead bridges to be erected in the South Auckland area. The construction of the bridge itself was completed last week, but to-day tho Railway Department finished the linking up of the line and the first, train passed under the bridge. .Motorists have been crossing the bridge for the past thrfee days, but they have had to watch the- temporary railway line. Now the line passes under the bridge and another dangerous crossing, the scene of many accidents, has been removed. The new bridge over the railway line at Ohinewai will be completed tomorrow, but as the approaches are not yet in order it will be some few days before motorists can use this structure. Excellent progress is also being made with the overhead bridge at Taupiri and with the construction of a subway and overhead bridge at Tirau. Work has also been commenced on the erection of an overhead bridge on the Hamilton-Morrinsville main highway.
