YACHTSMEN COMPLAIN

EVENTS AT CENTENNIAL j CONTROLLING COMMITTEE NO ADEQUATE REPRESENTATION Considerable surprise was expressed last evening at the annual meeting of the Auckland Anniversary Kegatta Committee that yachting was not adequately represented 011 the marine activities sub-committee of the centennial celebrations organisation. Mr. A. J. Collings pointed out that the accredited delegates of the regatta committee and the Yacht and Motorboat Association, along with members sent by other aquatic sports bodies, had been placed on the personnel of the sports committee, whose activities are limited to the control of athletic events. The marine activities subcommittee, which is to have jurisdiction over all aquatic events, does not contain a single executive officer of any yachting body. Mr. T. McKniglit said the regatta would constitute a major part of the celebrations and it was important that the executive should have direct representation 011 the marine activities sub-committee. He added that 110 fewer than eight inquiries had been received from Australian clubs desirous of sending craft to the 1940 function. Mr. B. "NY. Beaumont suggested that a special sub-committee should be appointed to confer "with the marine activities sub-committee with the view to inviting Australian yachts to visit Auckland in 1940. He was pleased that craft were going from Auckland to compete at Sydney's 150 anniversary functions, in January, 1938, and was hopeful that this visit would result in a reciprocal arrangement. Mr. G. M. Dennes, vice-chairman, said the intended participation of his M class boat Manene in the Australian competitions had been undertaken as an inducement toward a return visit by one or more Sydney yachts. After further discussion it was decided to press for the addition to the marine activities sub-committed of those representatives already appointed by the various yachting organisations.
