HOLIDAYS WITH PAY
DEBATE IN COMMONS PRIVATE BILL DEFEATED British Wireless RUGBY. Nov. 14 The House of Commons discussed holidays with pay on a Labour member's bill, which was rejected on tho second reading. Mr. 11. A. Butler, for the Government, intervened iri tho debate in support of an amendment, which was passed later, and which, whilo welcoming the development of the practice of •granting holidays with pay by voluntary agreement, refused to assent to 'the bill, pending the report of a Departmental committee under the chairmanship of Lord Amulree, which the Government appointed earlier this year to investigate all the relevant facts. • Mr. Butler mentioned that the com,rnittee expected to finish taking evidence soon and would then consider its report. He stated that since thr. question was last debated in tho House, "9,000,000 workpeople had been granted holidays with pay by agreement between employers and trades unions.
