FIRST PUBLIC MATCH
HOLLYWOOD GOLFER CROWD SPOILS THE PLAY COMPLETION IMPOSSIBLE (Received November 15, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 14 The question -whether John Montague is the world's greatest golfer remained unanswered after his first public match, in whi<?h the other participants were Mrs. Annenberg and Babe Ruth and Babe Didrikson. The match was abandoned at the ninth hole owing to the unruly behaviour of the gallery of , 12,000 people, through and around •whom the playors vainly endeavoured to shoot. Some were even down at the middle of the driving lanes. All heckled the participants constantly. Ruth and Didrikson were leading 2 and 1, but 'the crowd was so dense around Montague that he lacked even elbow room and many of his shots struck spectators, causing the players ,to desist for fear of inflicting serious injuries. The proceeds, one dollar per spectator, . are to be given to charity.
