CARTOONIST'S VENTURE
An Australian cartoonist, Mr. Percy A. Leason, passed through Auckland by tho Mariposa yesterday, on his way to Claromont, California. Mr. Leason has long had the dosiro to express liimself in oils and canvas, but for various reasons his assignments as cartoonist to weekly papers in Australia have kept him to the common round, and for the past 17 years his crafty black-and-white sketches have amused Australians, who enjoyed tho "outback" adventures of a Victorian settlement ho styled "Wircgrass.?! In his sparo time Mr. Leason devoted himself to painting in oils, and with tho passage of years lie gathered many meritorious examples of his work, which ho hopes to sell in tho United States.
