TELEPHONE SERVICES
IMPROVEMENTS AT HAMILTON ADDITIONAL CIRCUITS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Thursday Additions to the existing equipment in the Hamilton Post Offico will bo made in the near future in order to handle toll and telephone traffic more efficiently and in order to cope with the increased activity which it is anticipated these services will have during the next year. When the new exchange is completed it will house all the toll-carrier equipment and the power plant connected with tiie services. There will be a complete new toll board of modern design and a new toll test board. Early next year a three-channel carrier system to Auekland will be in use and, as this will provide for three additional telephone outlets, the' congestion which now occurs at times on the Auckland lines will be considerably relieved. After the work at present in_ hand has been completed, three new circuits will be opened between Hamilton and Botorua to replace the one there at present. Three direct lines to Te A rob a were cut in last month and improved outlets were effected at Cambridge. It has been the experience of authorities in Hamilton that when better provision is made for the handling of telecrams and toll calls there is an almost immediate increase in the volume of business done. It is expected that when all the new equipment is installed in Hamilton it will more than meet immediate demands.
