LADIES ENTERTAINED

' ANNUAL CHURCH SOCIAL The annual, complimentary social given by the managers and officers of St. John's Presbyterian Church, Papatoetoe, in honour of the ladies of the church, was held on Tuesday night. The programme and entire arrangements for the evening were organised by the men of the church. " Mr. W. J; Best, who presided, welcomed a large attendance, and referred to the important parts filled by the women in the life of the church. The programme included vocal solos by Messrs.,, H. S. Reynolds and H. Salter, elocutionary items by Messrs. H Ferguson and C. Mason, and pianoforte solos by Mr. R. Powell, who also played the accompaniments. A physical culture display was also given by Mr. L. Wilson and pupils. On behalf of the congregation, Mr. W Young made a presentation to the Rev. W. Butterworth, in acknowledgment of his services in the absence of the minister, the Rt. Rev. T. H. Rosec veare, on his* tour of the Dominion as Moderator of the General Assembly. Supper was served by the men s comiSittee, whose services and hospitality were acknowledged by Mrs. Hunter on Behalf of the ladies.
