PACIFIC NAVAL BASE
AUSTRALIA FAVOURED LONDON, Oct. O "I still think I was right in urging that Britain's Pacific naval base should be in Sydney, or thereabouts, in preference to Singapore," said Lord Straboigi, formerly Commander Kenworthy. "I believe that Singapore has been made the strongest base and the hardest nut to crack, hut the surrounding region lacks the resources and strength of Australia. , "Singapore needs a strong British garrison while an Australian base would have the Commonwealth Navy, and it would be much better to have the btg graving docks in Australia. It may yet be found that a big base is needed in Australia. "Britain is pushing on with the defences of Hongkong in spite of the creation of the Singapore base. Australia seems to be the natural basis for British strength in the Pacific." j
