AUCKLAND CHAMPIONS j MEN'S SINGLES TO R. LEVYkB MISS RAMSAY'S THIRD WIN It. Lewis, of Hamilton, won the Auckland provincial badminton title on Saturday evening in a tournament that included all Auckland's leading players. In a final, notable alike for its high quality of play and for the splendid resistance of both players, Lewis 'defeated the holder, H. Fow, by three matches to two, after tho latter had led up to the middle stages of tho second game. In the ladies' singles, Miss J. E. Ramsay scored her third successive win by defeating Mrs C. Wren by two matches to one. Mrs. Wren played well lo take the second set, but in tho third she was faced with a big deficit and Miss Ramsay, playing with resource and patience, only allowed her threo points. Mrs. Colledge and Miss Stichbury did not have time to find their best form against Misses Ramsay and Wade, who, with some previous matches to enable them to find their touch, ran out with a good deal to spare. The men's doubles final was one of the closest seen in Auckland for some time, and went to the Hamilton pair, Fow and Lewis, by a narrow mtrgin in the third set. Hull and Mrs.'Wren, whoso understanding was slightly superior to that of Wilson and Miss Wade, repeated their last year's success in a well-played match In tho B grade men's singles final, Whale defeated Rennio after a close contest. Both played well, and next season should see them taking a prominent part in more important events. The results v were as follows: MEN'S SINGLES Semi-finals.—H. Fow beat I. WELLINGTON CHAMPIONSHIPS HAWKSWORTH OUTSTANDING [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION*] WELLINGTON, Sunday The Wellington Badminton Association's championship and handicap tournament concluded last night. The standard of play was very uneven. The results proved that P. Hawksworth, the Wairarapa, New Zealand and North Island triple champion, is the best player in the Dominion. The results of finals were:— Men's Singles.—P. Hawksworth beat E. A. Roussell, 15 —2, 18 —16. Ladies' Singles.—Mrs. P. Hawksworth beat Miss N. Fleming, "il-—l, 2—ll, 11—7. Men's Doubles.—P.
