ORAKEI HOUSES TENANTS' APPLICATIONS CLOSING NEXT FRIDAY Although the first group of dwellings in the Government's housing scheme at Ornkei will not be available for occupation for a month or two months, applications from prospective tenants will close with the State Advances Corporation oil Friday of next week. This statement was made yesterday by 3jr. J. A. Lee, Parliamentary Under-Secretary in charge of the Ministry of Housing, who has returned from a brief visit to North Auckland.
Mr. Lee said that experience elsewhere had led to the conclusion that it was advisable to call for tenancy applications well in advance of the time when the houses would be ready for occupation. The detailed examination of the applications occupied considerable time. Mr. Lee also pointed out that approaches to members of Parliament or Ministers of the Crown would not assist prospective tenants in. securing any privileges with regard to the renting of Government houses.
