SEQUEL TO FATALITY
£2927 DAMAGES AWARD WIDOW AND INFANT CHILD [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] WELLINGTON, Friday A damages claim for £4027 3s 6d was brought in the Supreme Court today by Mrs. Lorraine Eva Mary Manning, of Lower Hutt, in connection with* the death of her husband, who was struck by a falling hatch beam when loading butter into the steamer Durham on Maich 3. Mr. Justice Reed was on the Bench. Tho widow has ono child, which was born six weeks after her husband 8 _ death. She claimed £27 3s 6d specia and £4OOO general damages. His Honor said he had no hesitation in describing tho claim as extravagant. It was probably the most extravagant of its kin he had seen in the Courts. The jury awarded £2250 to the widoflf and £650 to the child, and special damages brought tho total to £29 1 3s 6d. ,j
