PRINCESS ELIZABETH

The princess' favourite chocolate, trifle was served, and there was a big pink and white iced cake holding eleven scarlet candles in silver sconces As hostess, Princess Elizabeth presided in a great carved chair, wearing a new frock of frilled ivory georgette with a rose-coloured belt. Later the Princess appeared on the Castle terrace where a crowd was waiting to greet her in the courtyard below. She watched the Changing of the Guard and took their birthday salute of honour. Then Princess Elizabeth went back indoors to receive her presents in tho blue morning room. The King gave his daughter a new saddle and riding-crop, completing tho harness and bridle that was his Christmas present. Princess Elizabeth now has her own white horse called Snowball, her former pony, Peggy, being ridden by Princess Margaret. Other parcels contained a tennis racquet, a fitted handbag of pale grey suede, and a set of the novels of Sir Walter Scott, her favourite author. Her schoolboy cousins, tho two sons of the Princess Royal and Lord Harewood, sent Princess Elizabeth a gift of stamps.
