DISTINGUISHED SURGEON
EX-AUCKLANDER'S DEATH PROFESSOR C. C. CHOYCE Cabled news has been received in Auckland of the death last Friday, at his home at Rickmansworth, Herts. England, of Professor C. C. Choyce, the oldest son of Mr. H. C. Choyce, of this citv. Professor Choyce was bom in Auckland in 1875, and after studying first at the Auckland Grammar School and then at the University College, he went Home to continue his studies more than 40 years ago. He rose to a place of distinction in the medical profession, and the demands of his lifework kept him so busily engaged that he returned to his native land only once.
Professor Choyce studied medicine first at Edinburgh, where he took his M.D. degree, later becoming an F.R.C.S. of England. He was consulting surgeon to the University College Hospital and Seamen's Hospital, Greenwich, professor of surgery at London University and director of the surgical •unit at the University College Hospital. He had also filled the positions of examiner in surgery to the Universities of London. Durham and Bristol, consulting surgeon to the Convalescent Hospital for Officers. Osborne. and surgeon for the Royal Northern Central Hospital. During the Great War he served with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force, where he had charge of a hospital at Alexandria. At the close of the war he was awarded both the C.M.G. and the C.B.E. Professor Choyce was the author of Choree's "System of Surgery," which has gone through three editions, and he also contributed numerous important articles on surgical subjects to medical publications. He is survived bv his widow and by a son and 'laughter. The daughter is married and lining in Wellington, arid tho son is studying medicine in England.
