POPE AT ST. PETER'S

PART IN EASTER SERVICE VOICE BARELY AUDIBLE ROME, March 20 In spite of the most powerful amplifiers, the voice of the Pope at the Easter service at St. Peter's was barely audible. One sentence required a minute and 43 seconds to complete. Enthroned on a wind-whipped balcony, the Pope blessed 250,000 people assembled in the Plaza for Easter celebrations. His voice shaken by emotion and fatigue, he said: "Thank you for sustaining my strength by your prayers during my long illness." Germany was not represented among diplomats who assembled to hear the Pope's message. Although hi 3 apparent frailty was indicated by the weakness of his voice at St. Peter's yesterday, the Pope .appeared refreshed and invigorated this morning. He spent a restful night.
