POPE'S ILLNESS
A SUDDEN RELAPSE SPECIALIST SUMMONED STRONG-WILLED PATIENT By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received December 21, 7.30 p.in.) LONDON, Dec. 21 The Daily Telegraph's Rome correspondent says the Pope had a relapse and fainted on Sunday evening, and doctors were called in, as well as Senator Pende, a glandular specialist. No bulletin has been issued on His Holiness' order. Tlio doctors and nurses still find the Pope a strong-willed patient. Recently he said to a cardinal: "When my time conies, I pray that I may die in my chair at mv writing-table " The Pope hopes to send Christmas messages to the world on Christmas Eve, but Jiis doctors cannot say whether it will be possible owing to the complications of asthma, high blood pressure, and a weak heart. The Daily Mail's correspondent at Vatican City says it is unofficially stated that the Pope is not recuperating as fast as had been hoped. His weakness is not grave enough to justify fears for his life, but his general condition is poor. Ho still rises daily, attends Mass and receives Communion, after which ho discusses business for at least an hour.
