FINE ON EAST COAST rain likely in south The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening u the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —An anti-cyclone has continued to extend across northern New Zealand ' but a series of westerly depressions is passing in the south. Indications are for winds variable at first in the far south but mainly easterly or south-easterly' otherwise moderato to strong -winds between north-west and south-west prevailing, reaching gale force at time 9 about Cook Strait. Seas in New Zealand waters rough in the Cook Strait area and rather rough on the west coast of the South Island, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasrnan Sea: Moclerate to strong westerly winds, backing later to southcrlies in the southern portion, seas moderate to rather rough The weather is likely to be tine on the east const of the North Island, but elsewhere mainly cloudy or overcast Further rain probable in the western and southern portions of the South Island, with some heavy falls in Westland and some isolated showers also in (he western and central areas of the North Island. Temperatures warm, but becoming cooler later in the south.
