It is unfortunate that the delivery of fittings for street lighting in Dargavillo has beeu delayed and it will not bo possible for tho streets'to be illuminated by electricity for Christmas, but houses and shops which have boon wired in readiness will probably all be connected bv that time.

The chairman of the power board, Mr. J. A. McLean, said this morning that the Public Works Department had lived up to its promise to make power available between December 12 and 20 and the power board's undertaking that power would be in Dargaville for Christmas provided the Government's promise was kept, had been justified. The engineer to the board, Mr. T. R. Overton, said that everything had gone smoothly and every effort would be made to connect as many premises as possible with tho supply before Christmas.

The official switching-on ceremony will not tako place until February.
