PRACTICE OF TIPPING
BILL FOR ABOLITION PRIVATE MEMBER'S MOVE (Received November 22, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Nor. 21 A private bill for the abolition of tipping has been introduced in the House of Commons by Mr. J. S. Holmes (National Liberal—Essex), backed by members of all the parties. The measure would make it an offence for a waiter to solicit or accept a gratuity, or for a customer to offer one. it would empower the proprietor of a restaurant or hotel to make a fixed charge for service and distribute the proceeds among the staff.
