INSTITUTE AFFAIRS
Kakahi. —Mrs. Turley presided over a good attendance at the monthly meeting. Competitions for a vase of spring flowers and a plate of rock cakes were won bv Mesdaines Ashworth and Crump, respectively. A talk, with musical interludes, on " Music Through the
Ages," was given by Miss Francis. Two delegates wore chosen to assist with the formation of a new federation at Te Kuiti. Wnitorimu-Matnhuru.—Tho institute met recently, Mrs. Storey presiding. A collection of babies' singlets, knitted by members, was on view ready to be sent to Sister Esther. A sponge competition was won by Miss P. Taylor. Mrs. C. Storey gave a very interesting report of the remits discussed at the Dominion conference. A demonstration of smocking by Mrs. Corric was much appreciated. The hostesses were tho Misses Mavis and Marjorie Wallace. Their competition was won by Mrs. Ludwig. Morrinsville. —Mrs. J. T. Osborn presided over a large attendance at the last meeting of the institute, when several new members were enrolled. The roll call, "Hints on sewing and knitting," brought forth a number of useful ideas. Community singing was much enjoyed. Mrs. Gallichnn and tho Misses 11. McKay and M. Strevens contributed solos, members joining in the choruses. Mrs. J. Prenton, of Hamilton, gave some valuable information regarding the arrangement of courts at shows, and spoke of the aims of the British Drama League. Mrs. Prenton gave a dramatic excerpt from "Merchant of Venice and as an encoro " Butterflies." A competition for a sponge cake was von by Mrs. Arndt, who also won the flora! competition. Kaikohe. —The president, Mrs. W. H. Moor, presided at the last meeting. Votes of sympathy to Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Harold, who have suffered bereavement, were passed, members standing in silence. A report of the bi-annual council meeting, which she attended in Whangarei, was given by Mrs. Moor. Tho afternoon was organised by members of the arts and crafts circle, who choso for their roll call "Arts and crafts I would like to take up." The needlework competition was won by Mrs. Carey with Mrs. Neil second, and Mrs. W. Edwards third. In the soft toys competition Mrs. Blow was first, Mrs. Cates second, and Mrs. Vail third. A demonstration of papier macho work was given by Mrs. Young, of the Maori Institute, while Mrs. McGregor demonstrated Barbola work.
