PUBLIC WORKS CAMP COOKS

Sir,—May I reply to your correspondent, "Broken Pie Crust." He nsks, "who is responsible tor the system of employing cooks on contract in Public Works camps?" I submit that by reason of the introduction of the 40hour week, which the Government is not prepared to carry out in the various State departments, the Labour Party is at fault. Taking into consideration the fact that private and public hotel proprietors are being sledge-hammered into the 40-hour week, one would expect a better example. Incidentally, those located in Public Works camps have had their food bill increased by 58 per cent, with no increase in the quality or quantity of food. Constructive Policy.
