RISING NOTE ISSIIK FALL IN BANKS' DEPOSITS HIGHER ADVANCES TO STATE ([by telegraph —PRESS association] WELLINGTON, Thursday The Reserve Bank return for the week ended Monday, August 31, waa gazetted to-night. The statement is balanced at £25,160,927, or £20,295 more than at the close of the previous week. The note issue has increased by £163,113, following a rise of some £155,500 the previous week. Government deposits are £81,768 higher, while those of the trading banks have fallen by £388,897. Other demand liabilities have increased by £164,633. The only movement of any note among the assets has been an increase of £17,364 in the newly-appeared item advances to the State or to State undertakings. DIVIDEND RATE HIGHER (Received September 3, 7.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 3 Tho directors of Myers Emporium, Limited, retail drapers, Melbourne, have recommended a final dividend of 5} per cent, making 8} per cent for the year.

The final distribution last year was 4J per cent, including per cent bonus, and the payment for the year totalled 7J per cent. The company's paid-up capital amounts to £2,479,573.

Also 6714 bales were sold privately. The demand for all better descriptions was well maintained, prices for which were firm, but the irregularity and weakness in regard to faulty wools was further accentuated, with the result that these were difficult to sell, The chief competition came from Yorkshire and Germany. APPLES AND PEARS ARRIVALS IN ENGLAND [FROM OUn OWN COIIrfESPONDENT] LONDON, August 15 More apples and pears are arriving in England from New Zealand and Australia every year. The Imperial Economic Committee, in its weekly fruit intelligence notes for July 29, states that the aggregate arrivals of apples from those countries at United Kingdom ports this season up.to July 28 totalled approximately 5,090,000 boxes, compared with 4,504,000 boxes during thp corresponding period last year and 4,741,000 boxes in 1934. Arrivals of pears from Australia and New Zealand were equivalent to 699.000 boxes, as against 6(30,000 boxes and 463,000 boxes in 1935 and 1934 respectively.
