BARTER WITH GERMANY
AUSTRALIAN STATE'S ACTION PURCHASE OF MACHINERY LONDON, August 8 The Sun-Herald news service says it understands that an Australian State Government is ingeniously endeavouring to take advantage of Germany's barter system without conceding a principle which is against the policy of the Commonwealth. ' The State Government is stated to be negotiating for the purchase oi: £50,000 worth of dredging machinery, which can be obtained only in Germany, and stipulates that the purchase money should be spent on Australian wool. It is also hoped to secure advantage 'of the German export bounty, which will save the Government several thousandu of pounds.
