WHEELBARROW RIDER

200 GIRLS APPLY FOR POST EVENT AT ADELAIDE A recent advertisement in Adelaide for an active, bright, young lady as "sitter" in a centenary barrow endurance test brought 200 applications. Mr. A. Alexander, of Adelaide, has chosen Miss Mabel Smith, a 17-year-old girl, of Henley Beach, by drawing one letter, from the large bundle. Mr. Alexander, who pushed a barrtnr to Mount Lofty last j*sar, has accepted a wager of £2O to nothing that he could not push a barrow containing 15 stone deadweight to the summit of Mount Lofty in one day. He decided to advertise for a girl, and to make up the extra weight with lead. The wager will be decided on August 1. If Mr. Alexander succeeds, he intends to apply to the Centenarr Council and challenge the man who held a similar te:?t to Mount- Buffalo to an endurance test as a oentenary event.
