EMPLOYMENT FOUND
AUCKLAND MEN PLACED INCREASE IN PAST WEEK A substantial increase in the number of men found permanent or temporary employment in Auckland by tlio Government placement officer under tiie placement scheme occurred in the week ended on Saturday, compared with tho previous week. In tho past week work lias been found for .'SB .men, 28 being given permanent employment. Placement work in Auckland has boon carried out for tho past fortnight by Mr. W. Waters, in tho absonco 011 sick leave of tho placement oflieer, Mr. H. J. Gillmore. It was reported 011 Saturday that more employers had been communicated with, and that they were making increased use of tho placement office when seeking suitable labour. The placement ollicer had boon well received by employers, many of whom, although not in immediate need of additional staff, anticipated that they would be seeking labour shortly, it was stated. Jn a number of cases men had been unable to proceed to work found for them on account of lack of funds, and they had boon assisted by tho department, which had advanced thoir fares. One man had been sent from Auckland as far aliekl as Christchurch.
