; REGENT THEATRE Excellent acting by Otto Kruger in 'the part of a Hurley Street specialist, Dr. Stanley, marks the British International Pictures production, "Living Dangerously," at the Regent Theatre, as one of tlie most dramatic films to be shown in Auckland for some time. Francis Lister gives capable support in the part of Stanley's partner. Pryor, while Leonora Corbott appears as Pryor's wife. There is an intensely dramatic climax in which Stanley murders his partner after the latter has caused him untold suffering and degradation. Jan Kiepura. the popular singer' of "Tell Me To-Night," appears with Gladys Swarthout in "Give Us This Night," which is to be presented shortly. ST. JAMES' THEATRE All the colourful romance of southern California in the days when it was still more Mexican than American has been admirably recaptured in the swiftlymoving lilm "Robin Hood of Eldorado," which is enjoying a successful season at St. James' Theatre. In the part of the dashing brigand, Joaquin Murietta, whose mission of vengeance against the invading hordes of American miners forms the chief interest of the film, Warner Baxter gives a convincing performance. He receives capable support from a large cast, including Ann Loring and Bruce Cabot. PLAZA THEATRE James Cagney and" Pat O'Brien, who have already earned good reputations for their portrayals in parts which call for plenty of action, are seen together ! again in "Ceiling Zero," the Warner i Brothers' film at the Plaza Theatre. The story concerns the pioneering days of commercial aviation in America shortly after the war, and the story | abounds in thrilling and dramatic incii dents. An element of romance also is ; woven into the plot, and in this conf nectfon Juno Travis is outstanding. I MAJESTIC THEATRE Carole Lombard gives a delightful characterisation of a young society woman who cannot choose which of two suitors she wishes to marry, in the entertaining comedy "Love Before Breakfast," the main attraction at the Majestic Theatre. Preston Foster and Cesar Romero also have prominent roles. "Sweet Surrender" is the second film. STATE THEATRE Entertainment which has an appeal for every member of the family is presented in "Tough Guy," which heads the double-feature. programme at the State Theatre to-night. Jackie Cooper has a prominent part in a simple story concerning a boy and his dog, while Joseph Calient also has an important role. There is an excellent supporting programme, including an Our Gauc comedy and a Pete Smith sports film entitled "Professional Football." Commencing ,011 Friday, the clever spy story, "Rendezvous," in which William Powell and Rosalind Russell appear, will be shown. EMBASSY THEATRE After enjoying a season of four successful weeks at the Embassy Theatre, the Paramount production "The Trail of the Lonesome Pine" will have its final screenings to-morrow. Fred Mac--1 Murray, Sylvia Sidney and Henry : Fonda are the players. Commencing on ! Thursday, the United Artists' film "The ; Amateur Gentleman" will be shown. : Based on Jeffery Farnol's story of a ( young adventurer, the film has an exi cellent cast headed by Douglas Fairi banks, jun., and Elissa Landi. Gordon Harker and Frank Pettingell appear in support.

: PRINCE EDWARD THEATRE Guest night will be observed at the ! Prince Edward Theatre to-night when the entertaining comedy film, "You're Telling Mo," will be shown. W. C. Fields gives a most amusing performance in the part of an eccentric inventor, while Larry Crabbe and Joan March are responsible for the romantic interest. George Raft and Carole Lornhard are the players in "Bolero," the second attraction, in which the fandanger, Sally Hand, makes an appearance. Heading the entertaining supporting programme is a Pop-Eye the Sailor cartoon. "Sock-a-bye Baby." NATIONAL THEATRE Thrilling entertainment is presented in the interesting crime film "SingSing Nights," which is being shown at tho National Theatre. Conway Tearlo, Hardie Albright and Boots Mallory are tho players. One of the brightest comedy films to be produced by British studioa for some time, "Public Nuisance j No. 1," is the second attraction. FranI ces Day and Arthur Kiscoo have the i leading roles STRAND THEATRE The polished acting of George Arliss in such excellent films as "Disraeli" and "The Houso of Rothschild" is eclipsed by his performance in "The Guv'nor," an entertaining story concerning the adventures of an old tramp, which is now being shown at the Strand Theatre.. Jack Hylton and his famous dance band are heard to advantage in "She Shall Have Music," the second film. STAR CINEMA Sylvia Sidney gives a delightfully attractivo performance in tho amusing comedy film "Accent on Youth" at the Star Cinema. As the novelist with whom she falls in love, Herbert Marshall gives a very smooth and polished characterisation, while the dialogue of tho whole film is clever and subtle. TIVOLI THEATRE •An excellent double-feature programme will be presented at the Tivoli Theatre to-night, when special guest night, concessions will be available. Two players cf ability, Kay Francis and William Powell, have the important roles in "One Way Passage," the first attraction, while James Cagnev heads the cast in "Mayor of IIoll," which also is being shown CRYSTAL PALACE AND RIALTO The accomplished German actor Conrad Veidt gives a powerful portrayal in "King of the Damned," at tho Crystal Palace and Rialto Theatres Helen Vinson also is prominently cast. LONDON CINEMA Jack Holt and Jean Arthur are the players in "The Defence Bests," which heads the doublo-foaturo programmo to be presented at the London Cinema today. "One Man Law," with Buck Jones, is tho second film. VICTORIA THEATRE "Thank Your Stars," in which Jack Onkiti and Roscoe Karns appear, heads tho guest night programme at the Victoria Theatre. "Miss Fane's Baby Is Stolen" also is being screened. TUDOR CINEMA Dramatic entertainment of a very high order is presented in "Peter Ibbetson," which. is to bo shown at the Tudor Cinema to-night. There is an excellent supporting programme.

CIVIC THEATRE Frank Capra. the director of "It Happened One Night" and Robert Riskin, the brilliant scenario writer of the same film, have combined to produce yet another excellent light comedy in "Mr. Deeds Goos to Town," the current attraction at the Civic Theatre. Gary Cooper reveals an unsuspected Hair for comedy in the part of the humble young man, Longfellow Deeds, who suddenly becomes the possessor of nn immense fortune, while Jean Arthur has the loading feminine role. CAPITOL THEATRE "China Seas" and "Shipmates Forever" comprise the entertaining programme at the Capitol Theatre tonight.
