July it A message from Rome 'states that, an official communique admits that the Italians in Abyssinia were engaged in fierce fighting on Monday and Tuesday with Abyssinian bands who attempted to loot two food trains on the Jibouti railway between Akaki and Mojjo. Detachments from the military garrison at Lasadda fought the Abyssinians all night and inflicted losses on them until they retreated precipitately. Several battalions have been despatched to Mojjo from Addis Ababa. Despatches from Paris state that the ambushing of Italians has led the press to ask if Italy has really conquered Abyssinia and to declare that the episode proves that Italian control is precarious. II Dure may find it harder to conclude bis war in Abyssinia than at Geneva. Madame Tabouis, writing ill L'Ocilvrc, states that an Abyssinian Army concentrated at Sidamo is carrying on formidable guerilla activities, while another army 45 miles from Addis Ababa is attacking tlio Italians. END OF SANCTIONS ITALIAN CELEBRATION RESTORING MEAT DIET (Received July 10, 8.5 p.m.) ROME, July l> Italy will celebrate the lifting of sanctions on July 15 by reverting to tho meat diet. The Minister of Corporations has telegraphed instructions throughout the country that the decree imposing meatless Tuesdays and Wednesdays owing to sanctions has been lifted as from July 16. ITALY'S ANNEXATION FIRST STATE TO RECOGNISE SAN MARINO'S DECISION LONDON, July 0 The little Republic of San Marino, in Italy, not only enjoys the unique distinction of being still technically at war with Austria, Germany and Turkey because she refused to sign the peace treaty, but is the first Government in tho world to recognise Italy's annexation of Abyssinia. It need only bo said that Italian carabiniero keep order within its borders.
