STREET OF HEROES
MANY LIVES SAVED Down by tho clocks at Cardiff 1 have just discovered a street of heroes— Harrowby Street, where every man has done bravo deeds, writes a special correspondent of the Sunday Graphic. Thero is not a single householder in this street who cannot point with pride to some member of his family who has rescued peoplo from death in the 25feet deep canal that runs alongside the street. One man alone, Mr. Charles W. Hunt, has rescued more than 100 lives in 25 years. Two other men have rescued 00 and 'lO respectively. The street is situated within a stone's throw of the Coal and Merchants' Exchange in Mount Stuart Square. It is a single row of unpretentious cottages facing the (locks canal. The houses are tenanted by boatmen, dock labourers, shore workers and unemployed. Every resident is an export swimmer, and tho children learn to swim in the canal from the earliest ago. Accidents are always occurring in the canal. " Rescues from the Glamorganshire canal are almost daily occurrences," said 51-year-old Mr. Charles Hunt, who lives in what was formerly the Old Sea Lock Hotel. " Well over 1000 lives must have been saved during tho past 20 years."
