INTER-ISLAND MATCH INTEREST IN TO-DAY'S GAME The annual inter-Island Rugby League match for the Courtney Silver Football will be played at Carlaw Park this afternoon, commencing at three o'clock. Great interest centres in the game, owing to the forthcoming visit of the English team. Leading players will also be seen in a trial curtainraiser match, and any outstanding men will be considered for selection for the New Zealand team. If the conditions remain fine prospects for to-day's inter-Island fixture favour the North. The South forwards, however, are a strong set, and will fully test the defence. The visitors will field practically a now back line, McCarthy, halfback, being the only player who has previously represented the South Island. Schoolboys' cur-tain-raisers will be played from 12.30 o'clock. Following are the teams for tho inter-Island match: — North Island.—Fullback, C. Dempsoy (Auckland); threequarters, R. July 10 The captain of the English Rugby League team iD Australia, Jim Brough, is suffering acutely from an injured groin, and it la feared that he will not be able to play again on the tour.
