OUTSTANDING EXHIBIT

LAM BOURNE'S FINE DISPLAY Great interest has centred round the fine furniture exhibit of .Messrs. W. Lambourno Limited, who, as usual, have-one of the most artistic displays i l the Winter Exhibition. No one can help being attracted by the colourful ami pleasing layout of the two rooms — a bedroom and a living room—fully furnished ill perfect taste just as they would appear in your own home. Primrose ami gold relieved with a touch of green is the colour scheme chosen to set oil" the magnificent walnut bedroom suite, which, although designed on modern lines is one that has been constructed with a strict regard to Convenience. The smart dressing table with its gracefully cut mirrors and its unique design immediately takes the eye of the ladies while the gentlemen's wardrobebeing fitted out with drawers down one side and a full length hanging space on the other side, is amply suitable for all requirements. A double bed and dressing stool complete the suite. The living room also is a very attractively furnished room. The dining room suite is finished in oak and zebra wood and polished a rich brown which tones perfectly with the autumn tonings which form the colour scheme. The sideboard is an exceptionally pleasing piece of furniture, beautifully proportioned and very conveniently designed The heavily-built refractory type dining table adds considerable style to the suite.

Real restful comfort is the keynote of the massive chesterfield suite with its deep well sprung seats fitted with loose cushions and covered in a beautiful silk tapestry of rich orange and cold tonings. A fireplace with glowing logs in (lie crate creates a very realistic 1 effect ami just puts the finishing touch to the already attractive room. When the quality of workmanship and fineness of finish of this furniture is taken into account, the price asked for the three suites —namely £IOO. is remarkably cheap. Everyone remembers the well-known landmark "The Three Lamps." and these have been reproduced and cleverly included as a finishing touch to .1 really fine exhibit.

GATES' BATH CLEANSERS Among the really practical exhibits attracting interest at the Auckland Winter Exhibition are cleansing preparations made by Messrs. Gates and Son. of Addington, Christchnrch. Stains on baths can be quickly removed with Gates' porcelain bath cleanser and Gates' ironmould eradicator. The cost of a complete bath-cleaning outfit is only 2s 9(1. Motorists and mechanics havo been quick to appreciate the merit of Gates' Boska cleansing paste, which speedily removes oil, grease, tar or paint and softens the hands. Housewives also find it invaluable for many purposes. There are also many disinfectant and cleansing preparations at this firm'sstall at the show. Gates' dental plate powder quickly removes nicotine and other stains from dental plates by the simple method of rubbing the plate with a damp cloth and some of the powder. VAUXHALL-BEDFORD ENGLISH CARS AND TRUCKS The swift progress made in recent years in the construction and design of British motor-vehicles is accurately reflected in an outstanding display of Vauxhall cars and Bedford trucks at the Auckland Winter Inhibition. The exhibit, which is one of the most striking on show, has been arranged by Tappendeii Motors, Limited, of .'59 Beach Road. Auckland. The vehicles on show represent excellent value at the price and were manufactured by Vauxhall Motors, Limited, Luton, Bedfordshire. A centre of attraction yesterday was a I I horse-power, 193(5,' four-door Vauxhall saloon model. The vehicle had been placed on its side on a stand, the under-vicw of the chassis affording an authentic impression of the strength of construction embodied in (he cruciform principle of building. This principle relieves strain imposed on a car by "weaving." The first popular 11 horse-power English car to be fitted with independent front-wheel suspension, the Vauxhall is produced from a thoroughly progressive and up-to-date factory. This is obvious from an inspection of the vehicle. With various refinements, such as "nodraught" ventilation, Stevenson jacking and air wheels, the Vauxhall costs only •£.'120 and will average 27 to 31 miles per gallon. /' In addition to the standard model there is the de luxe 14 horse-power fourdoor saloon, priced at £3lB, and the 26 horse-power big six de luxe saloon, a magnificent machine, at £490. These

prices include synchro-mesh gears and all up-to-dato equipment. A fine exhibit > is u live-passenger, L'O horse-power ma- I chine, brought to the Dominion by Mr. L. Walton, chairman of directors of Vauxhall Motors, Limited. It is a coach-built model, Grosvonor body, with cocktail bar, picnic outfit and folding tables. A notable feature of the display is the lied ford trucks. The chassis combine sturdy strength with excellent finish, the prices ranging from £19!) to C Hi/), complete with cab. Rodies of any type to suit particular requirements can be fitted. Of particular interest is a Bedford chassis, which shows in detail the mechanical operation of the truck. These vehicles are rapidly increasing in popularity and they have the advantage of ihe forward suspension of the motor, giving more even distribution of weight. LESS LABOUR IN HOME HON I) AND HON I) EXHIBIT Unusual interest is being taken by 1 visitors to the Auckland Winter KxliibiI turn m a striking display arranged by j liond and liond, Limited. The ultramodern conception of the whole exhibit bespeaks the enterprise and originality of the designers, and is a reflection of the up-to-date business methods for which liond and liond is reputed. Housewives inspecting the display are thrilled at the labour-saving facilities on show- -all within the purview of people of moderate means. An examination of the exhibit and all it contains reveals a gratifying policy of decreasing labour in the home, and making the life of the housewife more interesting and more leisurely. Skyscraper and Crusader radios, which are becoming increasingly popular, are a feature of the Bond and Bond exhibit. The 11-valve de luxe Crusader radio, priced at £OS, is attracting considerable attention. It has an unusual depth of tone, and embodies the latest improvements in radio construction. AL the price, there is not a better set on the market. Of the wide range of machines on view, significant, interest is being taken ill the Skyscraper models, which have been specially constructed for operation on either alternating or direct current. Because of the decision to change the type of Auckland's power supply, and the long period over which the change is to be spread, these radio models will attract unusual attention. Reflecting careful consideration of latest radio development are the sets displayed with the new clock dial tuning, markinfi>a definite stage in wireless advancement. A labour-saving device—an utmost boon to the housewife —is the Easy washing machine, which Bond and Bond are exhibiting. Hanging from machines at £29 15s to de luxe models at £O9 lus, the exhibits are all equipped for operation by direct or alternating current. Then there are electric ironers, which will press anything from a lady's handkerchief to a man's suit. The prices range from £-12 15s to £l9 15s. They are operated from a sitting position, the manipulation being effortless. All the machines are streamline in design, and are excellently finished in pastel green. All the exposed metal parts are of stainless steel. An interesting miniature film is shown illustrating every static in the manufacture of washing machines, and their practical operation in the home. Also on view are British Service vacuum cleaners, of which there are about 000 in imp in Auckland. They are definitely guaranteed to carry out the work of cleaners of the more expensive typo. During the exhibition an electric mixer is given free with each .•leaner sold. The cash price is £7 19s 6d. The time-payment system provides for a payment of 2s 6d a week. The new Servel electric refrigerators, also on display, have been the subject of much favourable comment. Beautifully constructed, and with manifold advantages. the refrigerators are priced from £l2 10s. To use them is as simple as using a cupboard, and the food is kept fresh, tasty and wholesome. The hostess fortunate enough to own a Servel will always be able to serve delectable dishes for the enjoyment of her guests. The washing machines and radios are available on a system of timc-nayments involving an outlay of only 6d to 9d a day.

CARS AND MACHINERY D. MeL. WALLACE, LIMITED Large crowds are being attracted to the display of D. MeL. Wallace, Limited, at the Auckland Winter Exhibition. Designed in striking fashion one half of the stand is devoted to farm appliances and the other to motor vehicles. A Wallace super-electric milking machine, noted for its low running costs and quality of construction, is one of the main exhibits. The entire releasing system is made of nickel-plated, solid copper. In addition there is the "matchless" milking machine suitable for small farms where the efficient and speedy milking of up to 20 cows is required. A new type of vacuum pump and automatic pressure pumping outfit, for supplying water under pressure to all parts of the farm, also is on view. A I've Torque transmission driving machine, a new type of Baltic ballbearing separator, with a rustless bowl and discs, and a large hydraulic press made for Heid New Zealand Rubber Mills completes the machinery section. A handsome Rover 12 h.p. sports saloon, featuring the elutchless drive and free-wheeling device is one of the most attractive motor-cars in the exhibition. Alongside, is the latest fourcylinder 12 h.p. Wolsele.v sedan, another triumph of British engineering. Suited to those of moderate means is the Singer Bantam of 9 h.p., noted for its phenomenally low running costs. A Federal truck of rugged construction and ample power suited to any transport work occupies the rear of the stand. It is a display full of interest and well worth a visit.

LATEST MODEL CARS PAINE, CAMPRELL DISPLAY Considerable attention is being attracted by the display of the 1936 Pontiac and Oldsniobile cars displayed at the Auckland Winter Exhibition by Paine, Campbell Autos, Limited, of 07 Albert Street. Roth these ears incorporate the latest body and mechanical improvements and represent particularly good value. Selling from £llO, the Pontiac de luxe sedan has unusually graceful body lines, and contains the latest mechanical refinements which discriminating drivers demand. The all-steel body and top give unusual strength of construction, and the car has a low centre of gravity, an important safety factor. The (Mdsmohile, the prices of which range from CISO, oiler the discerning buyer till that could be desired in rid.mg comfort and performance, living fully up to the slogan.
