KING'S OLD BOYS
ASSOCIATION MEETS CLUB QUESTION DEFERRED The establishment of a club for old boys in the city was the principal question discussed at the annual meeting of the King's College Old Boys' Association, hold last night. The president, Mr. H. H. Gibbons, presided over .a large attendnnce of old boys, and the headmaster of the college, Mr. J. N. Peart, was present. in advancing the suggestion that n club should be established, Mr. Gibbons said members should give the executive instructions to set up a subcommittee to inquire whether such a club could be made a financial success without detriment to the present average income of the association. Only if that was so should they agr<»e to the committee proceeding with the scheme. Arguments for and against the establishment of a club, and in regard to the difficulty of making it pay, were submitted by members, and several urged that the jubilee fund should be carried to its completion first. It was finally decided that the question of establishing a club should be deferred until the jubilee fund had been met in full The installation of the new president, Mr. A. B. Baingcr, was carried out in the usual manner. While members sang the school song, he was escorted to the platform, where the retiring president invested him with the chain of office, and handed over the president's badge. In returning thanks for his election, Mr. Baingcr said he would endeavour to follow the high standard set by Mr. Gibbons in his year of office. The question of selecting an old boys' representative on the board of management of King's School was referred to the executive committee. Mr. Allan Hume, who has been president of the association on three occasions, was elected an honorary life member. The following officers were elected:— Vice-presidents, Mr. S. <T. Hanna and Mr. B.
