POWER IN SOUTHLAND
OFFER BY GOVERNMENT MEETING URGES REFERENDUM [by TF.r.I'.Gn.U'IT —PRKSS association] IN VK RCA RO ILL, Friday By an overwhelming majority a largo and representative meeting of ratepayers from all parts of the Southland Province this afternoon decided to urge the Southland Electric-Power Board to take a referendum on whether or not the Government's offer to take over the Monowai power scheme should be accepted. There were between 350 and •100 people at the meeting. Speakers expressed their views 011 the proposals of tho Government, and several criticised the Power Board for refusing to take a referendum. The meeting was convened in response to a petition signed by prominent town and co un try rate pa vers.
