STRIKE OF REFEREES
DISPUTE WITH RUGBY UNION DEADLOCK IN TARANAKI [BY TKLKGIIAI'H-'-Own correspondent] NFAV PLYMOUTH. Thursday The deadlock between the Rugby referees and the Taranaki Rugby Union following the decision of the referees not to take matches, as the result of the cancellation of their privilege passes to representative matches, continues. A meeting of the two bodies was held in camera to-day. but it was subsequently reported that there was nothing for publication. It was rumoured to-day that the .senior teams would refuse to play on Saturday out of sympathy with the referees, but club officials denied the rumour and said there was nothing in the nature of a strike of teams. They did say, however, that it was ridiculous to suggest that the clubs could provide their own referees, as was suggested last night by the Hon. James MeLood, M.L.C., chairman of the management committee of the Rugby Union.
