RUGBY FOOTBALL

GAMES FOR TO-MORROW BIG EDEN PARK PROGRAMME GRAFTON TO PLAY PONSONBY The eighth series of matches in the Auckland Rugby Union's senior championship competition will he played tomorrow afternoon. Patrons of Eden Pork will be well catered for, sis no fewer than four matches will ho played at headquarters. The principal attraction will be the meeting of Grafton and Ponsonby on the oval at three o'clock. Ponsonby has gone through so far without suffering defeat, but Grafton is very confident of being able to bring about the downfall of the leading team on this occasion. Both teams play open and attractive football, and an interesting and exciting contest seems assured. .The curtain-raiser will ho between University uiid Minis!, mid 111 is should prove anotlier close encounter. Maiist will have the stroiwr pack of forwards, lint its backs will be kept busty if University's huckH set plenty of tho bull. Bush's goal-kicking is always a source of danger to opposing Icuniß. Mariul, however, luis suffered but one loss this season, and the side is particularly anxious to maintain its position as runnerup to Ponsonby. The early gnmo on No. 2 ground will be between the Grammar and Training College fifteens, and the former appears likely to be too strong for the opposition. The succeeding game will be contested by the Manukau and North Shore teanus. At full strength Manukar would win, but North Shore has been showing gradual improvonient as the season progresses, and it cannot be held too lightly. An excellent match should be witnessed nf St urges Patk, Otahiihn, where the home team will oppose Technical Old Hoys. The latter made a valiant effort to head Ponsonby last week, and u repetition of that form would make Otahuhu's task a difficult one. It must, bo remembered, however, that a homo ground counts for a good deal, and so the result rimy be a very close one. The College Rifles team has drawn a bye.
