ONE KILLED: FIVE IN HOSPITAL MOUNT EDEN SENSATION A girl was killed and five other people were injured as a result of a violent explosion, the first in more than 50 years, at the Colonial Ammunition Company's premises in Normanby Road, Mount Eden, shortly after three o'clock yesterday afternoon. Many employees were cut by flying glass from windows and skylights shattered by the explosion, and others suffered from shock. Part of one wall of the main building: was demolished. The victims were:— Miss Patricia Marion Clifford, aged 18, machinist, of 14 C eorge Street, Dominion Road, killed instantly. Albert Elliott, aged 31, married, an engineer, of 22 Turama Road, Royal Oak, injuries to face and body and shock. Miss Violet Mary Cotterell„ aged 27, machinist, of 46 Bright Street, Eden Terrace, injuries to body and shock. Miss Annie Christina Guptill, aged 16, machinist, of 9 Karaka Street, Newton, injuries to body and shock. Miss Phyllis Jupp, aged 22, machinist, of 448 Manukau Road, Epsom, abrasions to body and shock, r Miss Elsie Rona Houghton, aged 33, machinist, of 52 1 hird Avenue, Kingsland, abrasions to body. The five injured were admitted to the Auckland Hospital. None was in a serious condition last night.
