MOTOR REGISTRATION
THE LAST-MINUTE RUSH
NEW NUMBER PLATES TO-DAY
All new motor-car number-plates are required to bo affixed to-day. Thore was tho usual last-minute rush at the registration bureau in Lome Street on Saturday morning and over 1100 sets of plates were distributed, the takings for tho morning exceeding £3OOO. Since tho opening of tho bureau a month ago approximately 17,000 sets have been sold, this figure being about 10 v OO greater than that at tho end of May last year. It is expected that about. 2000 sets of plates will bo handed over the counter to-day and to-morrow. The delay and congestion that have occurred at the Lome Street bureau have not been so noticeablo this yoar, a larger staff having been engaged, and during the past fortnight tho office remaining open until 8 p.m. During the busier periods an officer has been on duty to assist' people experiencing difficulty in tho filling in of tho forms.
