THE ASSOCIATION GAME

ENGLISH TROPHY CONTEST RULES COVERING CHATHAM CUP Confirmation of June 6 jib the date for its match against Auckland for the English trophy was received from Canterbury at last evening's meeting of the Auckland Football Association. The New Zealand Council advised .that entries for the Chatham Cup competition would close on May 15, and that the council would provide travelling fares. The question regarding hotel expenses was clearly explained in the council's letter. It was definitely stated that travelling expenses would bo the first charge on the proceeds after the payment of match expenses. Hotel expenses would then be considered. The council intimated that it did not favour the graduated system of entry as suggested by the Auckland Association. It was felt that the council misunderstood the position as it was only meant to apply to the local section of the competition. It was decided to advise the council of the position and request permission to carry out the scheme. A request from the Y.M.C.A. Club, which was supported by the senior division committee, that it be permitted to withdraw its reserve team, was considered at length. The club pointed out as its main reason for the request that several of its prominent players had transferred to another club. The board decided that, in view of the fact that the club was prepared to field two third grndo .teams, one of these could constitute the reserve team. Relative to the selection of the New Zealand representative teams to meet the Australian representatives in the three test matches, the New Zealand Council stated that three selectors would bo appointed. One selector would represent the North Island and one the South Island, while the third would be appointed by the council. Tho council requested the board, forward a nomination. It was decided to nominate Mr. J. Tinkler, sole selector to the Auckland Association. The Benior division committee recommended several alterations to the transfer • rules. It was found, however, on consideration of the rules, that a special general meeting would be necessary, and it was decided to advise the committee accordingly. The following ground officials were appointed for Saturday next :-B andford Park. Messrs. L. Mu7iro. W. Walker, J. Ball. F. Fullbrook; Western Springs. Mr. W. E. Smythemnn: North Shore, _ Messrs. W Morris and F. H. Baker; Victoria Park. Mr. J. C. Sibbin; Domnm, Mr. F. Fullbrook; St. Heliers. Mr. L. Munro; Fowlds Park. Mr. W. Martin. , The charge laid by the Y.M.C.A. Club with regard to the poaching, of players during the close season was investigated. It was resolved to censure the club responsible for the poaching and to advise clubs that drastic action would be taken I in any future cases.
