TELEPHONE TOLL CALLS
INTER-ISLAND SERVICE IMPROVEMENT CONTEMPLATED [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday " The Government recognises that increased facilities are needed to cope with the enormous demand for toll calls between the North and South Islands," said the Postmaster-General, the Hon. F. Jones, last evening. "The Government will shortly be considering proposals for its improvement and will endeavour to meet the increased demand as soon as possible." Mr. Jones said he feared there was no prospect of a reduction in telephone rental charges.
