"QUEEN OF HEARTS"

SEASON AT REGENT THEATRE Only too rarely does such a bright jand completely satisfying film as "Queen of Hearts" come to Auckland, and good houses are expected at the Regent Theatre, where the film will commence to-morrow. Gracie Fields' versatility was proved on the stage, where she made her reputation, and her advent to the screen has been attended with equal /success. There may have been doubts in the past as to whether Miss Fields has been given on the screen a stoiy capable of displaying her rich and varied talents. Those who see "Queen of Hearts'' will realise that this is not now the case. Here is a story, rich in comedy, of a workine girl's love for an actor (John Loder), of how she tries to meet him and eventually succeeds, being mistaken for a wealthy woman who desires to put money /into one of his shows. It would be unfair to tell of all the complications that follow. This is the first time that this player has had a happy ending in< any of her pictures, and it is the result of thousands of suggestions that came through a recent ballot. iVVith unlimited opportunities for beautiful frocking, the film presents a new and altogether charming Gracie Fields. There are many moments of uproarious comedy with Miss Fields in a wild motor-car drive, and again with her interpretation of an apache dance in which,' after much rough handling, she gets the better of her partner. The new songs, which are given beautiful stage settings, are bound to be heard in the future, and include "Queen of Hearts" and the popular "My First Love Song." John Loder gives one of his besx. performances to date, and others in the supporting cast include Enid Stamp-Taylor and Anthony Kimmins, /Monty Banks produced the picture and adds another entertaining and film to his already long list pf successes.
