HOWICK WATERFRONT

PROPOSED BREAKWATER A scheme for the improvement of acquatic facilities and the beautification of the waterfront at Howick was discussed at a recent public meeting organised by the Howick Sailing Club. It was agreed to appoint three delegates to wait upon the Town Board with ft view to securing its co-operation in the construction of a breakwater extending from the foot of Grey Street for about 200 yards to the corner of the cliff at the north end of the beach. While ensuring a safe anchorage for small craft, the breakwater would also protect the beach road, which has recently been impassable during stormy weather. The Town Board is at present reclaiming about an acre of land, which will form an attractive reserve and valuable addition to the beach.
