RETIREMENT ANNOUNCED

GOVERNMENT ASTRONOMER DR. C. E. ADAMS' RECORD [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON. Wednesday The Government astronomer and seismologist, Dr. C. E. Adams, will retire to-morrow on superannuation, and has been granted three months' leave of absence on full pay. It will be 25 yean to the day since his appointment. Dr. Adams intends to continue residing in Wellington. Responsible for the publication o£ numerous mathematical, astronomical and seismological papers, and possessing a reputation extending far beyond the Dominion, Dr. Adams has had many honours conferred upon him. He has been president of the New Zealand Astronomical Society, he is a- Martin Kellogg Fellow of Astronomy of the Lick Observatory, California, an Associate in Astronomy of Yale University, and a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, London. He was born at Lawrence, Otago, in 1870.
